Cellulite Basics

Cellulite is unfortunately something most women are all too familiar with. In fact, statistics show that almost 9 out of 10 women develop what is known as the orange-peel effect. Cellulite can create a more complex aesthetic problem as summer approaches.

What exactly is cellulite?

Cellulite is characterized by a local increase in fat and a decrease in blood and lymphatic circulation, which leads to circulatory stasis and water accumulation. The connective tissue loses its elasticity and the skin looks like an orange peel in places. It can appear on any woman, regardless of age or weight, and is usually associated with hormonal changes. The first signs are likely to appear during adolescence and are amplified with pregnancy and menopause. Cellulite can affect a multitude of areas: the buttocks, thighs, abdomen and hips.

The factors responsible for the development of cellulite are genetic, hormonal or organic and are exacerbated by daily stress, poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle.

Fighting cellulite requires continuous and systematic efforts and changes in lifestyle, eating habits and cosmetic skin care. It requires specialized treatment in the most difficult cases.
